Man charged in Dyer gas station stick up

An Illinois man faces charges after allegedly helping to take $1,600 and 10 cigarette cartons from a Dyer gas station.

He is in custody in Cook County and awaiting extradition to be held without bail. Another man — named as “Raymond” — who took a register while Guy held up the attendant is not fully identified.

Dyer Police responded at 4:28 a.m. Dec. 23 to a BP gas station, 3325 Sheffield Ave.

Police learned the attendant was in the back office, when Guy walked in and demanded cash. He showed a shotgun up his sleeve.

“Where’s the money,” Guy reportedly said.

Meanwhile, “Raymond” took a cash drawer out of one register, then left.

Guy, the gunman, ordered the employee to open another register and the safe, and put the cash in a bag, before they took off west on 81st Avenue to Illinois.

Police traced the car to the driver. The man said he “rented” the car “for crack” and had met Guy at a Ford Heights crack house previously.

That day, he went along as Guy picked up a second man. They stopped by the gas station. Then, he saw “Raymond” leaving with a register drawer. Eventually, Guy exited.

Police learned Guy was also a suspected gunman in a Nov. 23 Exxon gas station robbery.
