Southland crime: Car jacking in Oak Lawn, armed robbery in Steger, and more

Burbank

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY: Two men accused of banging on the back door of a residence in the 8200 block of Oak Park Avenue and opening one of the home’s bedroom windows Dec. 26 have been charged with attempted residential burglary, police said. Officers took Lukasz Styrczula, 26, Chicago, into custody a few hours later and arrested Mateusz W. Gogola, 25, 8800 block of 75th Street, Justice, Dec. 27 in Riverside.

Crete

FRAUD ALLEGED: Will County deputies arrested a Gary, Indiana, man Tuesday on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a three-count fraud charge, according to sheriff’s records online. Mitchell C. Jackson, 49, was absent in September for a mandatory hearing on one count of identity theft involving $300-$2,000 and two counts of using another person’s account number or code to obtain up to $150 in May 2020, court records show. Jackson remained in the Will County jail Wednesday, where he is being held without bail, sheriff’s records show.

New Lenox

KICKED COP: A New Lenox man was charged Dec. 28 with aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated assault to a peace officer, according to Will County circuit court records online. Kevin Lee Kallenbach, 62, 1200 block of Timber Place, kicked an officer in the knee Dec. 25 while being detained at the police station during an investigation, police said.

FRAUD ALLEGED: Ronald W. Hovey Jr., 46, 25000 block of U.S. Route 45, Monee, was charged with unlawful possession of a credit/debit card Jan. 1 following an early morning Dec. 31 traffic stop in the 300 block of West Lincoln Highway, according to police and Will County circuit court records online. During the stop an officer recovered the card, which was taken during a motor vehicle burglary, police said.

Oak Lawn

CARJACKING: A 2018 Chevrolet Equinox was taken at gunpoint at about 5:40 a.m. Dec. 24 while being fueled at the Shell gas station, 10601 Cicero Ave. The car’s owner told police a man approached him, displayed an undisclosed handgun and demanded the car keys, police said. The owner said he threw the keys at the man and ran into the station/convenience store uninjured, police said.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Edilberto Saucedo, 51, 9300 block of Sayre Avenue, was arrested and accused of aggravated assault Dec. 24 in that block after threatening another person with a handgun, police said.

Park Forest

BURGLARY CHARGED: A Harvey man was arrested Dec. 22 on charges of residential burglary and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with a Dec. 10 burglary in the 400 block of South Orchard Drive, police said. Paul C. Terrell, 33, 14900 block of Leavitt Avenue, is scheduled to appear at a Jan. 4 preliminary hearing, according to Will County court records online. Terrell took a 9 mm handgun and other valuables from the home while the owner was at a social engagement, police said. He had originally entered the home two or three weeks before the break-in on a heating/ventilation service call, police said.

BURGLARY: A .45 caliber handgun, 9 mm handgun, a safe and cash were among valuables reported stolen in a Dec. 18 break-in in the first block of Blackhawk Drive. Entry was made through a rear window, police said.

Steger

ARMED ROBBERY: A man and woman took cash and cartons of cigarettes and cigars at gunpoint from the 7-Eleven, 3401 Chicago Road, at about 10 a.m. Dec. 25, police said. The man displayed a gun, told the clerk to open the cash register drawers and then get a large trash bag from the office/storage room and put all of the cartons into the bag, police said. No one was injured, police said. The couple left in a gray Toyota Camry, police said.
