Young - Obituary |
17 November 2010 |
Thomas Mackay
Young worked as a Ware Assistant with Armitage Shanks in
Barrhead.
He servered in the Royal Navy with distinction during the
Second World War.
He was initiated into the Craft at the age of 40 on the 19th
January 1965.
In 1972 he became RWM of his Mother Lodge Union & Crown No
307 and was part of the imfamous Quality Street Gang of that
era.
He was an honorary member pf Lodge Nitshill No 1478 and
Lodge St Conval No 1369 and affiliated to Lodge Randolph No
1434.
He was also given Honorary Grank Rank in Grand Lodge (Sword
Bearer).
He held the office of Depute Master in his Mother Lodge on
at least 20 occasions.
To the new Master this was like taking out an insurance
policy having "Wee Tam" at your side to advise and encourage
you.
He rarely missed a meeting and always gave his Master great
support .
He was also for many years instruction master and I cannot
think of anyone who knew the ritual work better than !Wee
Tam", their was no doubt he liked a wee dram but even if
under the influence he could still prompt anyone that
required assistance, truly remarkable.
He would not tolerate anyone using foul language or not
sitting properly in a chair.
His party piece at Harmony's was singing "Ghost Riders in
the Sky".
I've heard it said that "Masonry was good for Tam Young" bit
I can assure you brethern Tam Young gave Masonry much more,
especially his Mother Lodge.
It was fitting that the last meeting he attended was the
Celebration of the Centenary of th Building of the temple at
Cochrane Street Barrhead on the 20th November 2010.
On 24th January 2011 in the Royal Alexandria Hospital at the
age of 85 "Wee Tam" passed away, he will be greatly missed
but never forgotten.
His funeral is on Thursday 3rd February 2011 at 2pm Woodside
Crematorium, Paislay. Thereafter at the Masonic Temple
Barhead. |
